About Me
I am an expressive figural and portraiture artist working in the core media of drawing, painting and screenprinting. I’ve been a practicing artist for 18 years, and have both a Bachelor of Fine Art in Sculpture from Indiana University, and a Master’s Degree in Studio Practice from the University of California San Diego. I’ve been an exhibiting artist for 8 years, and have published written works with Brunel University London, The University of California San Diego, Number Inc. Magazine, and the Nashville Scene.
Artist Statement
My work is a playground where I get to try out different arrangements of the human expressive organ--the face, the hands, the gestures. My best drawings are of characters straight from my imagination. They grow from the lines on the page, and by the end of the drawing I’m always looking at a very expressive stranger, as mysterious to me as they will be to the viewer. In the end it’s a meditation on the essence of character, material temporality, the body as object, and who’s in there, anyway? Each drawing is a small mystery we’ll never have the clues to solve.
